Founder’s Letter - The New Order of Communication

From Olubukunola Sawyerr-Izeogu
Founder & CEO, BukiHQ Dotcom

When my business partner and I established Edge Technology in 2001, I wasn’t thinking about building a group of companies. I was responding to an opportunity, identifying a need and creating something that could meet it.

In 2004, when our partnership came to an end, I took the business in a new direction, rebranding it as Edge Solutions Company. What began as a single venture has since evolved into BukiHQ Dotcom, a group of six distinct ventures spanning institutional communications, digital services, hospitality, residential design and creative innovation.

On the surface, these businesses may seem unrelated. But they share something fundamental: a belief that good ideas deserve thoughtful execution, that businesses must solve real problems, and that lasting value is created through capable people, sound systems and disciplined thinking.

We build, own and develop businesses.

BukiHQ Media helps organisations develop the communications capabilities, governance and strategic clarity they need to operate effectively. Edge Solutions Company brings businesses and audiences together through digital platforms, content and technology. Mulberry Vista creates thoughtfully designed hospitality experiences, including Ilé Mókirá, our boutique residence in Lagos. PlanHouse makes quality residential architecture more accessible through ready-made designs developed for the realities of living in Nigeria. And BHQ Incubator LABS provides a platform for African creative talent, ideas and ventures to grow.

Each business has its own identity, commercial purpose and operating team. BukiHQ Dotcom provides the strategic foundation that connects them: setting direction, developing intellectual property, strengthening governance and investing in opportunities for growth.

Over the years, my understanding of what it means to build a successful business has changed.

I once thought primarily about what we could create, the clients we could serve and the opportunities we could pursue. Experience has taught me to think just as carefully about what we can sustain, what we can improve and what can continue to thrive without depending on any one individual.

The real achievement is not simply building a successful business. It is building one that can endure.

That conviction increasingly defines our approach. We invest in systems rather than dependence on individuals, institutional knowledge rather than personal memory, and businesses with genuine commercial purpose rather than growth for its own sake.

We are proudly Nigerian, shaped by the opportunities, complexities and ingenuity of the environment in which we began. But our outlook has always extended beyond geography. We believe African businesses, ideas and intellectual property can compete, collaborate and create value anywhere in the world.

As we enter our next chapter, our ambition is not simply to become bigger. It is to become better: building stronger businesses, developing more valuable intellectual property, creating opportunities for talented people and establishing ventures capable of lasting beyond their founders.

There is still much to build. And that, perhaps, is what excites me most.
